Profile: Creque's Greenhouse
April 15th, the Maumee Valley …
Although opening day is almost 2 weeks away (April 26th), today’s preview visit
to Creque’s Greenhouse is convincing that a return is worthwhile – for the color, the
combination containers, and the personal attention offered only by independent
family-owned businesses like those who make up the Maumee Valley Growers.
Many of us remember picking strawberries at Creques. That’s still an option,
but for the last 20+ years the Creque family has also offered a variety of
flower and vegetable plants grown in the 3.5 acres of greenhouses at their
location in Western Lucas County. It’s a family business for Jeff and Eileen
Creque and their sons Tom and Brian.
Creque’s Greenhouse has many loyal customers who return every year, even coming
early to secure the very best of Eileen’s hanging baskets and combination
planters. As new neighborhoods are created in the area, new homeowners find
that Creque’s offers everything needed to dress up porches, decks, and
backyards.
Hanging baskets range from the intense reds and oranges of tuberous begonias to
the beautiful green tones of the not-yet-blooming moss baskets. Mixed
containers promise a summer’s worth of gratification, and small pots are
arranged to form virtual fields of gerbera daisies and Kong coleus.
Creque’s Greenhouse is located at 9700 West Sylvania Avenue. They will be open every day from April 26th until July 4th, 9 AM to 8 PM Monday through Friday and 9 to 5 on weekends.
