Profile: Whiteford Road Greenhouse

Whiteford Primrose February 28th, 2008, the Maumee Valley …

One more sign that spring is coming: the Whiteford Road Greenhouse is offering potted primroses. The English primrose (primula) was the favorite flower of British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, and Primrose Day is celebrated on April 19th in his honor.

Maumee Valley flower-lovers don’t have to wait that long, though. At Whiteford, for about the price of a gallon of gas, we can find primroses which are guaranteed to add cheer to any room right now. The only challenge is choosing a color!

Whiteford Helleborus Also available at Whiteford is the Lenten Rose (Helleborus), a long-blooming perennial which thrives indoors during the winter months. Both the Primrose and the Lenten Rose can be planted outside when spring arrives.

The Whiteford Road Greenhouse, located at 4554 Whiteford Road (between Monroe Street and Sylvania Avenue), is open 7 days a week, 8 AM to 6 PM.
